John K. Kim
|
Mr. Kim concentrates his practice in representing employers in labor and employment issues. His practice includes day-to-day employment counseling, representing employers in administrative proceedings, and defending employers in state and federal litigation. Mr. Kim also represents employers and highly skilled individuals in employment-based immigration matters. He also engages in commercial litigation and enforces creditors’ rights on behalf of financial institutions and businesses.
Mr. Kim received his B.A., cum laude, from Wheaton College in 2001 and his J.D. from the American University, Washington College of Law in 2005. While in law school, Mr. Kim served as a Note and Comment Editor for the American University Journal of Gender, Social Policy, and the Law. In 2004, he was a member of the Moot Court Honor Society and the first place finishing team at the national John J. Gibbons Criminal Procedure Moot Court Competition held at Seton Hall University School of Law in Newark, New Jersey. He also served as a student law clerk for the Honorable Peter C. Schaumber, member of the National Labor Relations Board. Upon graduation, Mr. Kim received the Mooers Trophy for excellence in trial practice.
Mr. Kim is admitted to practice in the state courts of Illinois and the United States District and Bankruptcy Courts of the Central District of Illinois. He is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, American Bar Association, and the Illinois State Bar Association, where he serves as secretary of the Judicial Evaluations Committee, Outside Cook County. Mr. Kim is also active in the Peoria County Bar Association where he has served on the board of directors, and chaired the diversity and young lawyers committees. He also serves as a Barrister in the Abraham Lincoln Inns of Court.
Mr. Kim is a 2008 graduate of the Peoria County Leadership Program, and a 2009 graduate of the Peoria Chamber of Commerce Leadership School. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Hult Center for Health Education, ArtsPartners of Central Illinois, Inc., and the Peoria Area Track & Field Club.
